Mustafa Abbas

Dr. Mustafa Abbas has is a highly qualified and experienced Consultant Interventional Radiologist who joined Burjeel Medical City. He brings with him an impressive array of qualifications and certifications, including the European Board of Interventional Radiology (EBIR) obtained in October 2022. He also holds a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Interventional Radiology, received in August 2020. Dr. Abbas has is skilled in a wide range of interventional radiology procedures. His expertise encompasses emergency and elective vascular procedures such as embolization for trauma, gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding, and bronchial bleeding. He is proficient in peripheral angioplasty and stenting for peripheral vascular disease, as well as fistula works, including angioplasty, stenting, and declotting. Additionally, he is experienced in deep vein thrombosis (DVT) thrombolysis and declotting, IVC filter insertion and retrieval, and central venous access procedures like Porta Cath, Hickman lines, and PICC lines insertion. His expertise extends to various aortic procedures, including TEVAR (thoracic endovascular aneurysm repair), EVAR (endovascular aneurysm repair), and CERAB (chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency angioplasty and stenting). Dr. Abbas as is also skilled in mesenteric and renal artery stenting, pulmonary artery angiogram and thrombolysis, TIPS (transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt) placement, and trans jugular liver biopsy. He has experience in procedures such as uterine fibroid embolization (UFE), varicocele embolization, pelvic venous congestion treatment, varicose vein treatment, PAVM (pulmonary arteriovenous malformation) treatment, and TACE (transarterial chemoembolization). Furthermore, he has some experience with carotid artery stenting. Before joining Burjeel, he worked as Vascular Interventional Radiology Consultant at STH and was an IR fellow Sheffield teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust(STH). Apart from vascular work, Dr. Abbas also has proficiency in non-vascular procedures, including imaging-guided biopsies and drainage. He is skilled in percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography (PTC), gastrostomy, as well as esophageal, duodenal, and colonic stenting. He has expertise in performing nephrostomy, cystostomy, and ureteric stenting procedures. Furthermore, he is experienced in diagnostic OGD (esophagogastroduodenoscopy). 

Ishthiaque Ahamed

Dr. Ishthiaque Ahamed has joined Burjeel Medical City as a Specialist Nephrologist and renal transplant physician. He brings a wealth of expertise to his new role. Dr. Ahamed completed his DM in Nephrology from Christian Medical College, Vellore, India, in 2004. Prior to that, he obtained an MD in Medicine from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, in 1999 and an MBBS from the same institution in 1995, establishing a solid educational foundation for his career. He also gained valuable experience through observing ships at prestigious institutions. In 2009, he expanded his knowledge through an observership at the Multi-organ transplant unit at Toronto General Hospital in Toronto. In 2013, he was trained in the Across-Blood group transplant unit at AsanMedical Centre in Seoul, South Korea. Throughout his professional journey, Dr. Ahamed has held various positions that have enriched his knowledge and skills. Since April 2006, he has served as a nephrologist at Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospital in Bangalore, which is a renowned 2000-bedded health city in India. He has served as Senior Consultant and Head of the Department at the same hospital since 2016. He has been involved in the care of over 500 renal recipients, making him highly knowledgeable in the field. Dawood Shah

Doctor Dawood holds an MBBS degree and experience of 4 years as an attending doctor in the Cardiology department. He has supported and attended various urological procedures. and addressed the issues of passing the nasogastric tube in patients, pleurocentesis, abdominocentesis, debridement and dressing of wounds as well as the skin closure procedures under supervision. King Jee Dhar

Dr. King Jee Dhar has joined Burjeel Medical City, Abu Dhabi as a Specialist in Anesthesia. He holds a comprehensive educational background, having successfully completed his MBBS and MD degrees from prestigious institutions in India. Panayotis Kaloyannidis

Dr. Panayotis Kaloyannidis has joined Burjeel Medical City as Specialist Hematologist in the Adult Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant department. He has 25 years of experience, mainly in the field of malignant hematological diseases and their treatment with conventional chemotherapy and cellular therapies, including hemopoietic stem cell transplantation. Since 1998 he has been actively involved in more than 2000 hematopoietic stem cell transplants (autologous and allogeneic) from any source of hematopoietic cells (bone marrow, peripheral blood, and umbilical cord blood). In 2012-2013 he was trained in cellular therapies with chimeric antigen receptors T cells (CAR T-cells) and specific T-cells against viral infections and relapse post allogeneic stem cell transplantation. His Expertise and areas of interest include diagnosis and treatment of malignant hematological diseases, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, post-transplantation complications (Graft vs. Host disease, infections, relapsed disease), cellular therapies, and immunotherapy for malignant hematological diseases. He has 28 years of experience in the field of cardiology at various prestigious institutions. With his extensive knowledge and experience, he has helped numerous patients achieve better heart health and an improved quality of life. Jafaru Abu

Dr. Jafaru Abu is a Consultant Gynecological Oncology Surgeon who, before joining Burjeel Medical City, Burjeel Holdings, occupied a senior position at Nottingham University Hospitals in the United Kingdom. In a career span of nearly three decades, he worked in the field of obstetrics and Gynecology and as a consultant for almost 20 years in gynecological oncology. During his post graduate training years, he worked in a chain of leading Teaching hospitals in the United Kingdom. Following his general training in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr Abu decided to undergo a focused and highly specialised surgical training in gynecological oncology between 2003 to 2006 and worked as Subspecialty Fellow at the University Hospitals of Leicester, United Kingdom. He was also a visiting Fellow in Gyn Oncology to The Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital, Queensland, and The Royal Northshore Hospital, Sydney, Australia. Dr. Abu undertook all of his postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynecology in the UK and worked as a House Officer, Senior House Officer, Specialist Registrar,  Senior Registrar and Clinical Research Fellow. He was a brilliant academic performer throughout his undergraduate and postgraduate training, qualifying with excellent grades. He was instrumental in the introduction of advanced laparoscopic procedures in the management of cancers of the uterus (womb), cervix (neck of the womb), and in carefully selected cases of ovarian cancer. He is well known for his exceptional ability to perform complex minimally invasive procedures, both laparoscopically and with the DaVinci robot. He became one of the first Gynecologists in the UK to perform single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS), a “scarless” procedure. He is also highly acknowledged in performing extensive cyto-reductive surgery for advanced stages of ovarian cancer and led the Department of Gynecological Oncology at Nottingham University Hospital, UK, to become an Accredited Advanced Ovarian Cancer Cytoreductive Surgical Centre by the European Society of Gynecological Oncologists (ESGO). Ujjwal Deshmukh

Dr. Ujjwal Deshmukh has more than 12 years of experience in the field of critical care medicine. He has completed his MBBS and MD from a reputed medical college from Pune India (BJ Medical college). He has pursued Diploma in critical care medicine followed by fellowship in critical medicine from quaternary care center from Pune ( Apollo hospital). He was a postgraduate teacher for DNB programme in India and have trained many students in the field of critical care medicine. He holds a considerable experience in ECMO for both VVECMO and VAECMO. He has experience in managing solid organ transplant patients in ICU including Liver, Renal and Uterine transplant.
